Forbes Daily: Senators Grill Trump’s Fed Chair Nominee Kevin Warsh

Kevin Warsh, President Donald Trump’s pick for Federal Reserve chair, insisted he would lead the Fed independently while under oath in his confirmation hearing Tuesday.

As Warsh faced questions from senators, he said the president never asked him to commit to lowering rates, “nor would I do so.” Still, in an interview with CNBC ahead of the hearing, Trump said he would be disappointed if Warsh doesn’t slash rates right away.

Republicans won’t have the votes they need to move Warsh forward without Sen. Thom Tillis, who has vowed to block the nomination in committee until the Justice Department drops its probe of current chairman Jerome Powell.
