Forbes Daily: Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy Pill Set To Hit The Market In January

The price of gold and silver reached new all-time highs Monday, continuing a run for the commodities in 2025 that has seen a series of record-setting prices.

While previous surges have been attributed to investor uncertainty caused by President Donald Trump’s economic policies and interest rates, Monday’s rise comes amid escalating geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela.

Oil prices also jumped to start the week, with U.S. crude rising 2.39% to $58 a barrel and Brent crude up 2.28% to $62 per barrel as Trump said he would not rule out a war with the South American nation.

The FDA approved the pill version of Novo Nordisk’s weight loss treatment Wegovy on Monday, marking the first oral GLP-1 medication that will hit the market. The pill—which is slated to launch in early January and will cost $149 a month—can help patients lose as much weight as a Wegovy injection, according to Novo Nordisk CEO Mike Doustdar. The company’s shares surged in after-hours trading following the announcement.
