I can’t quote scripture. I try not to go around telling people what they should believe. I don’t think you need faith to be a good human.
But I do believe in something that shows up in almost every religion, philosophy, and kitchen wisdom: Treat others the way you want to be treated.
That’s it. Simple yet effective. And honestly, it’s kind of amazing how often the world forgets it.
I had forgotten about it or didn’t pay it much mind until I was making a pickleball Golden Rule meme: Treat others on the court as you would want to be treated. It not only makes sense on and off the court. I realized this would also make for a great column, one that I could use in the FLT and later on my pickleball Facebook page. I love tying together pickleball and happiness and real life.
These days, being rude has become a sport for some. Being offended is a hobby for others. After all, social media algorithms reward outrage, not empathy. News cycles........
