POSITIVE VIBES: Happiness hacks

I can’t help but notice that a lot of people are tense about the upcoming election on Nov. 5. No matter who wins, a certain percentage of the population will be happy, a certain percentage will be indifferent, and a certain percentage will be upset.

Elections have become like sporting events, where we insist our team must win. I like to think, however, that elections aren’t really sporting events where when one team wins the other team loses. I feel we all really have the same basic needs: a roof over our heads, affordable access to food and medicine, to keep our families safe, and a way to make a living and contribute to society. We are pack animals after all. We just have different ideas of how to achieve the same goals.

But that’s just me. I’m a health and happiness guy. It’s my job to look for common ground and to try to see the best in people. That said, I know a lot of people don’t think like me (which is a good........
