When former President Donald Trump holds a rally, he usually does not use charts to illustrate his message. But at his Butler, Pennsylvania rally on July13, he made a sudden decision to display a chart showing that the number of illegal immigrants entering the U.S. during his administration was far fewer than during President Joe Biden’s administration. Trump turned to look at the chart when the would-be assassin’s bullet came less than a quarter of an inch from entering his head. Instead, the bullet hit the top of Trump’s right ear, leaving a two-centimeter-wide wound that initially caused significant bleeding and swelling of his entire upper ear.

Had Trump not slightly moved his head at the precise second that he pointed to the chart, “I would not be here today,” he said during his speech at the Republican National Convention. He attributes his narrow escape from death as divine intervention “by God All-mighty.”

Two days after the rally, Trump announced his selection of U.S. Sen J.D. Vance as his running mate. Since then, much has been reported about Vance. But most people may not be aware of the fact that Vance also believes that divine intervention saved Trump’s life and can speak from personal experience about such interventions.

The day after the funeral of his beloved grandmother, Vance drove back to North Carolina to rejoin his Marine Corps unit. On the way, on a narrow Virginia back road, Vance hit a wet patch of road coming around a turn. His car spun out of control.

In his book “Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis,” Vance described what happened next: “I was moving fast, and my twisting car showed no signs of slowing as it hurtled towards the guardrail. I thought briefly that this was it — that I’d topple over that guardrail and join Mamaw (his grandmother, whom the family all called Mamaw) just a bit sooner than I expected, when all of a sudden the car stopped. It is the closest I’ve ever come to a true supernatural event, and though I’m sure some law of friction can explain what happened, I imagined that Mamaw had stopped the car from toppling over the side of the mountain.”

“Law of friction” or divine intervention?

I believe FLT Publisher and Executive Editor Mike Cutillo and his wife Jan experienced a miraculous supernatural event several years ago while driving home during a snowstorm from a Christmas Eve family get-together in Baldwinsville. After driving over black ice, their car slid over the Thruway and came to rest on a downslope in about seven or eight inches of snow. Calls to roadside assistance indicated it could be several hours before help could reach them.
