DOING THE WRITE THING: Searching for answers

I love to talk (no kidding, right?) and try my best to listen. I also try to keep up with comments posted online in response to news stories and on Facebook posts about issues on people’s minds.

I hear a lot of complaints and speculation about city matters or new developments in the towns across the region and calls for someone to “do something.” But what, exactly, is it that people want done? And, perhaps more importantly (because we are defined as much by what we don’t allow or support as much as what we do), where do people draw their lines of what they don’t want done?

Let’s start with the former Town & Country Plaza (RIP Geneva Cinema, site of many fond memories). When people say that “someone should do something” with that property, what do you mean? Former City Councilor Ken Camera had floated the idea of housing in that area, and the comments on Facebook were not just critical but downright mean. Is it that people don’t think Geneva needs more........
