FAITH PERSPECTIVES: A reminder to remember the poor

I want to talk about the poor — or being poor.

I think about many in the world who are dirt poor. Many go without clean water, adequate food, a roof over their heads and deal with non-existent health systems. Even in our own rich country many children and older adults go to bed hungry at night. Thank God for school lunches, otherwise many students would go hungry. How are we supposed to teach kids when they are hungry?

I had a priest visit two parishes I used to serve as a representative of “Food for the poor.” This organization works primarily in the Caribbean. He told a story of being on a bus bringing food to people along the road. The bus stopped,........
