The Seneca Meadows Landfill engaged us to conduct a scientifically-based investigation in response to allegations concerning a potential role of the Seneca Meadows Landfill to a lung cancer cluster that had been identified by the New York State Department of Health on or around 2017.
We performed a comprehensive assessment, including reviews of the data available on air-borne exposures, the literature on landfills and the incidence of lung cancer; and the documented risk factors for lung cancer. The full report is available on Seneca Meadows’ website.
We concluded that there is no evidence that the Seneca Meadows Landfill contributes to lung cancer incidence in its vicinity, regardless of whether a lung cancer cluster does or does not exist.
