What kind of people do they think we are? Liberal Ottawa evidently believes a $250 cheque and a chance to avoid some GST over Christmas are enough to make us begin to like them again so they can pick themselves up off the public opinion floor and begin rising to levels competitive enough to avoid a blowout in next year’s federal election. I say “Liberal Ottawa” in deference to custom but I bet not even Ottawa and its environs think much of the Liberals these days.

Note that $250 is just $196.54 if we use the dollars of 2015, the year this vintage of Trudeau Liberals came to power. Such is their inflationary legacy that we have had to start specifying again which year’s dollars we’re using when talking about money.

The internet is not clear on who first came up with the old joke about how “we’ve already established what you are, now we’re just haggling about price.” You know: Man asks if woman would spend night with him for $1 million (in $2024, say).
