It is now exactly half a decade since the March 15, 2021, announcement by Rogers and Shaw that the two Canadian telcos planned to merge. The deal successfully closed in April 2023, but only after a two-year battle with the anti-merger Competition Bureau, whose attempt to mount a “full block” of the deal was rejected by the Competition Tribunal, which oversees the legality of the Bureau’s activities.
