Naga Rebel Group Threatens To Resume Armed Struggle If Necessary – OpEd

The main faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland ( NSCN) has threatened to resume ” violent armed resistance” against India to defend the ” sovereign existence of Nagalim.”

Thuingaleng Muivah, general secretary of this NSCN faction, has proposed ” a third party intervention” to take forward the negotiations that began in 1997 after a mutual declaration of ceasefire.

That ceasefire, which brought back peace to India’s oldest theatre of separatist rebellion, has held so far, despite any real breakthrough accord in 27 years of negotiations.

In a statement released on Friday, Muivah said any final settlement between the NSCN and the Indian government will have to be based on the 2015 Framework Agreement between the two sides.
