Pakistan stands at the crossroads of a global climate crisis, not just as a vulnerable nation but also as a key player in international climate diplomacy.

With its geographical diversity, ranging from the towering peaks of the Himalayas to the arid expanses of Balochistan, Pakistan is acutely susceptible to the impacts of climate change. The country faces a growing threat from increasingly erratic weather patterns, glacial melt, and rising sea levels. However, Pakistan’s role in the climate crisis extends beyond its borders, as it collaborates with global partners like the United States to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change and bolster resilience.

Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change is undeniable. The country is ranked among the top ten most affected by climate-related disasters in the last two decades. The devastating floods of 2010 and 2022 are stark reminders of the looming threat that climate change poses. These floods submerged a significant portion of the country, displacing millions and causing economic damage that ran into billions of dollars. As the global climate continues to warm, the frequency and intensity of such events are expected to rise, putting Pakistan’s infrastructure, agriculture, and overall economy at severe risk.
