Iranian Resistance Strongly Welcomes The Ceasefire – OpEd
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, leader of the “Iranian Resistance,” has warmly welcomed the ceasefire in the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. This reaction is explained by the fact that the war had been acting as a shield against the advance of the January uprising—a movement that, despite the deaths of thousands, remains alive.
The reason lies in the daily executions of members of the resistance units—established by the Mojahedin in Iran in 2016—as well as arrested protesters. According to the judiciary, these individuals are accused of “acquiring weapons” and “armed actions against the Islamic Republic.” The aim of these executions, it is argued, is to prevent Generations Z and Y from joining the resistance units in preparation for another uprising.
Iranian cities have taken on the appearance of military garrisons in order to prevent new uprisings. According to Saeid Montazerolmahdi, spokesperson for the police forces, more than 129,000 officers are deployed around the clock across various units. In addition, 1,463 checkpoints have been set up nationwide, and nearly 15,000 mobile and vehicle patrol units are continuously operating in cities and along roads.
Ayatollah Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic, had repeatedly stated that “war is a divine blessing.” Even today, in the context of this war and the bombardments, the authorities continue the executions of protesters.
Yesterday, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, head of the judiciary, called for the acceleration of the implementation of death sentences in Iran. In contrast, the ceasefire is seen as a courageous decision by the United States, and its continuation could pave the way for the advancement of the uprising, while bringing the prospects of peace in the region and freedom in Iran closer.
