Khwarij Infighting And Power Struggles – OpEd

The never-ending intra-communal feuds in Khwarij are a clear illustration of what has always taken from throughout the years of militancy: violence as no end itself, but lust of power, survival at the expense of killing a life and giving a life. The last stand-offs between the opposing splinter groups point at the extent to which these outfits have been fragmented particularly with the escalated wrangles of money, land and power. Their propagandists are selling them righteous rebellion, which is a series of civil wars that only destabilize areas that are already unstable. These divisions within are not accidental but simply the natural result of repressive, criminal, and unscrupulous organizations.

One of the most noticeable indicators of such decay is a collapse of any important command-and-control structure. It is normal place that fighters have been moving out to join another side not due to a shift in ideology, but due to availability of superior sources of criminal income. The ransom kidnapping, extortion, smuggling and assassinations have become the proven sources of income.
