Column: Returning to your roots

I think one of the prime reasons Vertis and I decided to move back to Arkansas from South Texas was the climate. It was a difficult decision because we had a raft of wonderful friends in the Corpus Christi area, and leaving a successful business environment was very difficult. Of course, we were very active in our church. However, Arkansas' weather was probably one of the deciding factors in our decision, and since today we are in the middle of a beautiful Arkansan spring, I would put an exclamation point and underline SPRING!

I know that sounds a bit trivial, but the overall climate in south Arkansas was a major part of the package of business, climate and family that brought us back from South Texas, where spring just means it is going to be a little warmer and with more wind, and we need to start keeping an eye on the Gulf for storms. But spring in Arkansas has a different feeling as winter passes, and as we see the dogwood, azaleas and daffodils change an Arkansas landscape from the bleak, dreary winter one to one with flashes of color that change daily and make a landscape that seems to glow with different colors is one of the pluses of living in our state.

We were lucky when we started looking for a building site in El Dorado to find an old house place with an abandoned........
