Opinion: Live longer with coffee?

Before being relegated to a feeding tube two years ago, I usually drank three or four cups of coffee a day. That seemed to be close to the norm for most Americans, particularly considering it's widely considered the most popular beverage in the world with some 2 billion cups consumed globally each day.

Then I read it wasn't healthy to drink that much, so I've cut back to one, sometimes two down the tube.

It seemed like one study after another carried conflicting information about the potentially positive and negative effects.

Medical News Today reports: "Because of the nutrients and antioxidants found in coffee, previous research reports that the drink may help decrease a person's risk for diseases like type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, liver disease and obesity.

"Conversely, other studies show there are potential adverse effects to regular coffee drinking, such as increased anxiety, [as well as being] a trigger for migraine, sleeping issues and gastrointestinal issues."

And now (wouldn't ya just know), Medical News Today says, a fresh review of existing literature by researchers at the University of Coimbra in Portugal says drinking coffee regularly may add an........
