The art of the dining deal

In the midst of the covid epidemic that got serious in March 2020, we, like a lot of people, stopped dining in restaurants and defaulted to take-out. It was awkward at first. Some restaurants, not used to the enhanced take-away trade, established hard-to-navigate call-in order systems, which meant some orders got lost in the shuffle, were misunderstood, were incompletely or incorrectly fulfillled, and weren't ready on time (or were sitting in a bag on the restaurant's take-away shelf long before the order time arrives).

Many restaurants hereabouts quickly adapted though, and soon easy-to-operate online ordering systems that included click-to-select ways to choose options and extras and indicate pickup times were the norm. That's when ordering meals-to-go got to be fun. And for some of us, it's become our preferred manner of enjoying someone else's cooking.
