Seven entries, one first-place winner.

The MacArthur Park Unleashed Shade Structure Design Competition invites everyone to meet its finalists at a reception and award presentation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 501 E. Ninth St., Little Rock.

The competition--open to professionals, individuals, and collaborations from all backgrounds--sought creative ideas for establishing an iconic symbol to serve as a focal point for the downtown dog park while providing much-needed shade and shelter for dogs and their owners. The competition builds on ideas from the MacArthur Park Master Plan of 2006. It addresses concerns from regular visitors to Unleashed--especially dog owners who've been roasting in the sun for years.

The design competition winners will take home cash prizes totaling $2,500, and the dogs of Little Rock will finally have a place to cool off. So everybody wins.
