GUNTER: Boris Johnson's resounding victory to get Brexit done

The “what” is interesting enough. In Thursday’s U.K. general election, the Tory party led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson won what Johnson described as “a huge, great stonking mandate.”

In all likelihood, Britain will now withdraw from the European Union (E.U.) by the end of January. Three years of contentious political wrangling that followed the 2016 Brexit referendum will now be replaced by three or more years of contentious legal and economic wrangling as the U.K. negotiates new trade and travel agreements with Brussels.

But as interesting as the “what” is, it’s the “how” that’s truly fascinating.

The U.K Tories won their largest majority since 1987, when Margaret Thatcher was their leader, by breaking through the so-called “Red Wall” of British politics.
