In Canada, we now have bail for people charged with sexual assault, kidnapping with a firearm and possession of an illegal firearm. We also have reduced sentences for repeat violent sexual offenders based on their race.
It’s an outrageous situation and both instances are due to bad Liberal justice policies.
Last Wednesday, Justice Frank Hoskins of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court handed down a two-year sentence to Omogbolahan “Teddy” Jegede for two violent sexual assaults. He noted that had it not been for the impact of race and culture assessment (IRCA), he would have given a longer sentence.
Impact of race and culture assessments don’t dictate a sentence to a judge, but judges are required to give serious consideration to them at sentencing.
