The victim needed dental surgery to his mouth including nerve work and the removal of one tooth.
Dixon, of Hawthorne Drive in Necton, near Swaffham, pleaded guilty at York Magistrates’ Court to causing actual bodily harm.
He was fined £499 and ordered to pay £250 compensation.
The court heard he had joined the Army when he was 16 and had seen active service in 11 years as a soldier but he had now made the decision to leave the Army.
Craig Robertson, mitigating, said the victim had been “drunk” and “abusive”.
“It would have been reasonable to push him away," he added. "He was clearly not where he should have been.
"It was not reasonable to punch him in the face."
