Prosecutors told Norwich Magistrates’ Court the drunken attack had been a “particularly nasty sustained incident of violence” that was a group action involving four assailants from Thetford against a one person.

Sachin Jadhav, 36, Andre Baxter, 21, Reggie Holder, 19, and Josh Martins, 19, all pleaded guilty to a single charge of affray.

The court was told Jadhav, of George Road, had grabbed the neck of the victim, pulling him to the ground and swinging a “wild punch”.

CCTV footage captured Martins, of Mallow Road, repeatedly punching him while he lay prostrate on the ground.

Baxter, of St Johns Way, and Holder, of St Martins Way, then laid in with repeated kicks and punches.

Martins, who appeared via video link from prison where he is already serving three years and three months for drug offences, was sentenced to 12 weeks.

Bethanie Mantin, mitigating, said: “His role was limited to a single punch.

“It was quite a febrile atmosphere, he didn’t know the man involved but he got carried away. He hugely regrets that.”

Baxter and Holder were both sentenced to eight months suspended for 18 months.

Baxter, representing himself, told the court, said: “I’m a working man who doesn’t commit crime but I felt threatened.

“I didn’t know the man and it got a bit excessive.”

Jadhav was sentenced to a 12 month community order with requirements to complete unpaid work, rehabilitation days and 120 days alcohol abstinence monitoring.

Andrew Spence, on his behalf, said: “He sincerely regrets his involvement and has learnt a life lesson.”
