REVEALED: Pier restaurant set to become takeaway

Plans have been revealed to covert the Tides Bistro on Cromer pier into Tides Takeaway, with works on the site already under way.

The current sit-down eatery has been closed since the beginning of the year after it announced plans for a "reimagining" of the place, but it was previously unclear what the renovations entailed.

Sean Garrett, general manager of the pier, has submitted the proposal for the change to North Norfolk District Council which includes a kitchen refit and the installation of LED digital screens.

In the planning documents, it proposes "minor internal layout adaptions" to accommodate the counter-service operations and the replacement of two front ice cream kiosk windows.

It said: "Current sliding sashes have reached the end of their life, are difficult to operate, pose health and safety risks, provide limited security, and restrict customer interaction."

So, it has been proposed to replace them with timber bi-fold windows to remove any health and safety risks, enhance security and improve customer engagement.

The proposal also includes the addition of two self-service food units near the entrance, offering items such as pasties and sausage rolls, with draught beer and wine remaining on the menu.

When asked about the revamp plans for the restaurant, a spokesman for the pier said: "The planning application reflects our ambition to evolve Tides into a more flexible, all-day offer that better suits how visitors are using the pier.

"We’re seeing growing demand for high-quality, grab-and-go options that people can enjoy along the promenade, alongside more traditional dining.

"As part of the refresh, we’re exploring how the space can work harder. It’s all about creating a more accessible offer while still delivering the quality and value people expect from Cromer Pier.

"Tides is currently taking a short pause while we finalise plans, with the intention of reopening in time for summer."
