Protestors fighting to save beloved bus shelter in Sheringham

People in the north Norfolk town have stood outside the shelter by North Norfolk Railway since 5.30pm on Monday after it emerged builders had come to the site.

Norfolk County Council has ordered the structure to be removed to make way for what it describes as a new travel hub.

About twenty protestors lined Station Approach on the way to the station outside the shelter on Tuesday morning.

Mandy Sellick, 78, who grew up in Sheringham, said: "We have been protesting all night and all day. The builders have now shown up.

"They have taken the benches from the bus stop and are now drilling at the back.

"We are still standing here. We are just trying to keep on the fight. The bus shelter is amazing. It is part of our heritage. We don't want it down because it is beautiful."

The bus shelter dates back to the 1950s and features a mural of a steam locomotive by local artist Colin Seal.........
