Labourer Rob Dixon, who had been friends with Mr Cowling for 20 years, was asked to check on him after his partner became concerned after not hearing from him.
Mr Dixon arrived at the pub at around 11.10am where he found Mr Cowling unresponsive “slumped on the floor” in his bedroom, and he immediately called an ambulance.
He was told to start CPR but struggled to "move him due to his size”. Mr Cowling was pronounced dead at the pub.
Norfolk Coroner’s Court heard the landlord, who also worked as a chef, had a lifelong love of food and constantly battled with his weight.
The investigation concluded his death was drug related (Image: Newsquest)
