Highways worker who suffered serious head injury dies in hospital

Alan Sturman, 70, of Horning Close, Norwich, died at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital on September 18 last year.

Norfolk Coroner’s Court was told Mr Sturman had been identified by staff at the hospital, with formal confirmation later provided by his brother.

Opening the inquest, area coroner Johanna Thompson said Mr Sturman was born on November 23, 1954, and had worked as a highways operative.

The medical cause of death was given by Dr Swift as a head injury with an acute subdural haematoma.

Ms Thompson said the court would need to gather further evidence before the full facts of Mr Sturman’s death could be determined.

A pre-inquest review hearing has been scheduled for October 5. That hearing will consider what further witnesses, reports or medical evidence may be required before a final inquest can take place.
