The county is home to both RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath, two of the biggest and important US airbases in the country.

Due to congressional leaders failing to agree on federal funding allocations for the 2026 fiscal year, it has now meant a stoppage to non-essential government services.

As a result, military personnel at Suffolk airbases are currently working without being paid as a result of the US government shutdown.
