We don't want to be governed by Norwich! (Historic town calls for its own council) |
Locals in King's Lynn have thrown their support behind plans for a new authority, which would be the first the historic port town has had since the 1970s.
Currently, Lynn is the largest town in the county without a dedicated council, leaving services such as parks, cemeteries and planning in the hands of West Norfolk Council.
Figures published this week by the council show 85.9pc of the 915 people consulted want to see a new authority created, with just one in ten against the idea.
Lynn's last council, the Municipal Borough of King's Lynn, was scrapped in 1974 and absorbed into the wider district council.

Nearly 20,000 households were sent consultation documents on the new proposals.
