Thousands flock to Norfolk's £17m 'Minecraft' library... but not everyone is a fan

The new facility - which has got its nickname from its distinctive 'blocky' style - opened in King's Lynn last month and Norfolk County Council, which funded it, has said there have been more than 8,000 visits in a matter of weeks.

The design of the striking new building, at the former Argos store in Lynn's Vancouver Quarter, has sparked both enthusiasm and dismay.

Its bold, block‑like exterior quickly earned the building comparisons to Minecraft and Legoland, while some have gone as far as to brand it a "monstrosity".

The project forms part of a broader redevelopment drive in Lynn.

Across the town centre, a £30m overhaul of the historic Guildhall - a Grade I listed building dating back to the 15th century - continues to make strides.

The project has been organised by West Norfolk Council - which has earmarked up to £15m of borrowing to support the scheme.

The scale of spending on both the library and theatre has split opinion locally.

Some have welcomed the boost to the town while others have questioned whether the money could have been spent elsewhere.
