More than 1000 without a home this Christmas as scale of homelessness revealed

New data estimates that there are currently 1,113 people in temporary accommodation or living on the streets in Norfolk.

The figures, provided by Shelter, a national charity that campaigns for housing justice, reveal a surge in homelessness across certain regions in the county.

South Norfolk Council represents the biggest increase, having seen the number of homeless adults and children rise from 155 to 278.

North Norfolk Council saw the number grow from 139 to 153, with figures also rising in West Norfolk Council from 131 to 145.

However overall numbers remain similar to last year, when the number of people without a permanent home stood at 1,122.

This is due to other councils reporting a decline.

Breckland Council saw a drop from 242 to 210, while Norwich City Council saw figures fall from 86 to 58.

The report from Shelter told the story of Georgia, an administrator from Norfolk, who moved into temporary accommodation with her 7-year-old son in May following the breakdown of her marriage.........
