Couple's 'forever home' approved after locals criticise 'unsure' planning officer

A heated West Norfolk Council planning meeting saw a parish councillor question the competence of an officer who advised councillors to reject a bid of a single self build home in Walsoken, on the outskirts of Wisbech.

The application, submitted by long-term locals Mr and Mrs Griffin, sought permission to build a “forever home” on land half a mile outside the village’s development boundary.

Planning officer Keith Wilkinson urged councillors to block the scheme, branding it an “unplanned, piecemeal” form of development that would leave future occupants reliant on cars due to a lack of pavements.

He also claimed the plans posed a threat to “grade one” agricultural land and conflicted with several local plan policies.........
