Candidate for Rupert Lowe's Great Yarmouth First accused of 'offensive' texts

Jon Wedon, who is the MP's constituency office manager, is said to have made the remarks in a series of text messages, seen by this newspaper, about the woman to another colleague in late 2024.

Mr Wedon, a former special constable, disputes the allegations, which are the subject of active court proceedings.

He is one of nine candidates standing for GYF - a local offshoot of Mr Lowe's Restore Britain party - in the county council elections and is contesting the Lothingland ward.

Mr Lowe has said his candidates are all from the Yarmouth area, to ensure proper vetting.

In one of the messages, responding to a text questioning how long the female starter would last, Mr Wedon - a director of GYF - is alleged to have said: "I agree, I don't think she will be an easy one to get rid of (although we can just fail probation) but, yea, just something not quite right there."
