A47 petrol station reopens with new shop after six-month revamp

The Shell filling station, just off the A47 on Light Lane in Walton Highway, was originally set to reopen in February after closing for works in October.

But adverse weather conditions pushed back the opening to March, with the facility officially reopening on March 19.

The building has been expanded by 50 sqm to accommodate improved toilet facilities and additional storage, and the forecourt has also been modernised.

New pumps fed by new underground fuel tanks have been installed.

But the biggest addition to the site, which has stood on the roadside since 1993, is a new Co-op store.

A spokesman for Shell said: "We’re pleased to have completed the refurbishment of the Shell Wisbech service station, bringing a refreshed look and improved facilities for customers in west Norfolk.

"The site now includes a newly opened Co‑op store, giving customers greater choice and convenience for everyday shopping alongside fuel.

"The investment also delivers a more modern forecourt and upgraded amenities designed to make stopping at the site quicker and easier for people living, working and travelling locally.

"We continue to invest in our UK service station network to meet changing customer needs and to ensure our sites remain welcoming, reliable places to stop on the road."
