Officers seize e-scooter 'barely seconds' into patrol

Police found two separate issues with e-scooters in London Road North on Wednesday evening.

The patrols are part of the You Say We Did campaign that police have been tackling, with officers saying e‑bikes and e‑scooters remain top of the list for anti‑social behaviour.

The first scooter with a lock nearly as big as the scooter itself was found in the town centre without insurance and was consequently seized.

A spokesman for Lowestoft Police said: "The e-scooter is now enjoying an all expenses paid trip to the recovery yard."

A second scooter was found abandoned, also in London North Road, and was taken to Lowestoft Police Station for safekeeping.

Officers are urging the owner to come forward and collect it with proof of ownership, a driving licence and a certificate of insurance.

A spokesman for Lowestoft Police added: "You need insurance to ride e-scooters in a public and private place in Suffolk, and bearing in mind you cannot get insurance for them, that makes them illegal to ride in this county."
