New electric vehicle charging points to be installed across Norwich

Drivers in the city will soon have access to dozens of new on-street chargepoints as Norfolk County Council begins the latest phase of its programme.

Phase five is set to begin on April 8 and will bring 59 new public chargepoints to 32 streets across.

The council said the scheme is designed to help people without private driveways charge their vehicles closer to home.

Installation work will involve setting up a chargepoint pillar and cabinet beside suitable parking bays, with underground cables laid to connect each site to the local electricity network.

On some streets, more than one unit will be fitted.

The areas included in this phase are St John’s Close, where work will take place from April 10 to May 1, Lincoln Street (April 9 to May 8), Aylsham Road (April 13 to April 22), Marion Road (May 11 to May 22) and St Leonards Road (April 8 to May 22).

Norfolk County Council said the project has been planned in consultation with Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service and with care to ensure the chargepoints do not obstruct pavements for pedestrians, wheelchair users or those with pushchairs.

Temporary parking and footpath closures will be needed while the work takes place.

Signs will be displayed in advance and alternative routes will be provided where paths are closed.
