Daniel William Fairbairn, 38, had left the woman “shaking with fear” after repeatedly targeting her before turning up outside her workplace armed with a knife.

Norfolk Coroner’s Court heard Fairbairn was later discovered hanging at his Norwich home in Mousehold on September 3 last year, after concerns were raised about a smell coming from the property.

The hearing was told police searching his address after he was jailed had made a gruesome discovery – severed pigeon heads which Fairbairn had been attaching to doll bodies.

John Keane, of the custody liaison and diversion team, said the disturbing find caused serious concern among officers and mental health staff.

Mr Keane told Norfolk Coroner's Court that Fairbairn tried to explain the items away by claiming he had been "practising taxidermy".

But he said his own experience meant he did not accept that explanation.

“Due to this information and my past clinical experience it indicated to me that he was practising fantasy-based scenarios," he said. "Taxidermy did not make sense.”

Mr Keane said he immediately shared his concerns with custody staff and senior colleagues after learning what had been found inside the flat.

Fairbairn had been convicted of stalking a female worker at BrewDog Norwich.

The court heard he became fixated on the woman and repeatedly pursued her, causing significant fear and distress. Matters escalated when he was arrested after waiting outside the city centre venue carrying a knife.

The victim was said to have been left........
