Loss of two major car parks will 'kill off' city centre street traders say

Shop owners say Norwich City Council’s decision to shut the facilities at Edward Street Petrol and Broadside Warehouse will "kill off the street".

These closures come just months after 1,500 parking spaces were lost when demolition work began on Anglia Square, along with hundreds more at the car park off St Saviour's Lane - now used as a temporary box park shopping village.

Many business owners along the road say they are fighting to stay open after the loss of places to park led to a dramatic drop in shoppers, with one takeaway owner saying he can no longer afford to pay his rent.

They now fear the latest closures will be a nail in the coffin for the once thriving street.

One shop owner in Magdalen Street said: “The council’s decisions have been underhanded.

“We were hardly consulted about any of this.

“Every single business is struggling.

“The council are trying to kill off the street.

“The redevelopment is a good thing.

“But........
