The warnings are in place for Gorleston, Lowestoft and Heacham.

They have been issued by activist group Surfers Against Sewage, who say that the recent heavy rainfall has caused pollution to flow into the waters. All three beaches are at the mouth of rivers or lakes.

The organisation advises people not to swim at the beaches.

Heacham has struggled with sewage problems for several years and has been described as Norfolk's most noxious beach.

It is currently also the subject of an official 'do not swim' order from the Environment Agency.

The Heacham river flows out to sea at the beach and is the focus of ongoing attention from Anglian Water as well as local councils, who are trying to identify the source of the pollution.
