Opinion: Suffolk economic growth is emblematic of our clean energy jobs boom

Take nuclear power: the UK was a world leader from the 1950s onwards, but in recent decades we have fallen behind.

I was proud to identify sites for new nuclear when I was Energy Secretary in the late 2000s, but we have failed to bring a new nuclear power station online in more than 30 years.

Sizewell B in Leiston was the last nuclear power station that this country completed. It continues to power the equivalent of around 2.5 million homes a year, while employing just under 800 people in Suffolk.
