Neighbours 'terrified' after yobs return to estate

Since the tenant of a property at Cannell Green returned after a court order to block his flat was lifted, neighbours have spoken of fights, shouting and threatening behaviour which has also followed suite.

They say they are frustrated by the situation, with some questioning why Norwich City Council, who issued the order, allowed the tenant back.

One woman, who was homeless for eight months before moving to the estate, said she would choose being homeless again than continue living near the trouble.

She said: "I loved living here but this makes me feel terrified. I've seen tinfoil and white powder at the bottom of the stairs. When they were last here, my cat came home with cigarette burns.

"It's not just the guy who lives there, it's the people he lets in and it's a group of 15 or 20 people. Over time, there's only so much you can take."

Another man, who also lives near the flat and was attacked near it about eight months ago, said: "To say 'I feel fed-up' is an understatement.

"When I try calling the police, they say it's the council's problem and when I call the council, they say it's for the police."

He said: "We're are scared to confront these people because they've got knives and it makes me feel uncomfortable."

Another neighbour suggested the community come together to start a neighbourhood watch.

He said: "We have got to have a coordinated way of reporting what happens and taking it to the police.

"This is a lovely place to live when there's nothing like this going on."

City Hall, which manages the estate, said it was aware of the issue and is "working with the relevant services to find a permanent solution."
