Stink row erupts as town's medieval Rows ‘used as toilets’ |
The Rows in Great Yarmouth are a unique gridiron network of narrow medieval passageways - originally numbering as many as 145 to 156, according to historic surveys, though only around 80 survive today.
Two of the lanes - Market and Broad Row - are now commercial thoroughfares lined with shops and businesses and form key pedestrian routes between the town centre and South Quay.
But local leaders have alleged that open urination along some of The Rows has led to "an unpleasant odour" wafting around the town centre.

Rupert Lowe, MP for Great Yarmouth, said: "It seems that The Rows are being used as toilets.
"We are in peak summer season, this is not the image of Great Yarmouth I want to give off to residents or tourists. It's disgusting."
Mr Lowe pointed to the council's existing enforcement tools, arguing they were "pointless" if unused.
