Hemsby demolition plans see homeowners fear being made 'homeless before Christmas'

Great Yarmouth Borough Council announced this week that some of the houses most at risk - a row of 11 timber-built chalets at The Marrams - could be knocked down as early as Monday, December 15.

Simon Measures, chairman of Save Hemsby Coastline, said the council "seems intent on pressurising people to voluntarily hand over their properties".

A spokesman for the council previously said that officials are "working closely" with the owners of the properties "to help them understand the risk to their homes and offer support".

But Mr Measures, who lives on the coast, said he and his neighbours feel "abandoned by those in power" and that the council is "exerting undue pressure on vulnerable residents in the area, aiming to demolish their homes as early as possible".
