Ministers stand by controversial farm tax - despite pressure from farmers and MPs
The chancellor's controversial decision to scrap inheritance tax relief for farms valued over £1m has left countless farming families suddenly vulnerable to a 20pc tax when handing land and assets to the next generation.
The so-called "Family Farm Tax" has sparked protests and campaigns across the country, including the EDP's Fair Deal for Farmers Campaign, calling for a reversal of the policy.
But exchequer secretary Dan Tomlinson said the government made “the right decision” at last year’s Budget, with the changes due to take effect from April 2026.
