Alderman Peel High School, in Wells, contacted officers after the explicit content began circulating widely among children and parents.

Believing the profiles might be genuine, parents contacted the school to complain.

It has said categorically that the profiles are fake and it has called in police to see if any criminal offences have been committed.

Daniel Thrower, chief executive of the Wensum Trust - which runs the school - has written to all parents, saying the "material has no basis in fact and appears intended to cause distress".

He described the material as "malicious content" and said the incident was being treated with "utmost seriousness".
