Stately home in Norfolk broke record for hottest May day

The Mercury hit 32.9C at Houghton Hall, along with Santon Downham, near Brandon in Suffolk on Monday, pipping the previous record of 32.8C which was also equalled at Marham.

Both featured in a list of 12 locations compiled by the Met Office where the record was topped over the Bank Holiday, as Kew Gardens in London reached 34.8C.

Parts of central and southern England faced further forecasts of up to 36C on Tuesday as the heatwave continues after a week when temperatures were peaking at around........
