Norfolk council agrees to spend £250,000 to fight local government shake-up

South Norfolk Council has vowed to challenge the government’s proposals to scrap all eight Norfolk councils and replace them with the three-unitary ones.

Documents seen by this newspaper show the Tory-run authority is readying itself for the legal battle by instructing lawyers to act on its behalf.

The challenge would be funded from its reserves for devolution and local government reorganisation, according to confidential minutes of its cabinet meeting on Monday.
