Hong Kong unrest has no end in sight

In the end, the pressure from the street was clearly too strong. Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam declared during a press conference that the government was suspending the controversial extradition bill, apparently amid concerns and doubts among the public.

In the meantime, the streets of Hong Kong have grown quiet again. The government now wants to talk with civil society groups and come up with a plan for how to proceed. There is no deadline for passing the law.
