As the crisis in the Middle East continues, the European Union has said it wants to be more involved in Syria, where, after years of war, the situation for civilians is increasingly precarious.

Expanded EU involvement would include more presence on the ground, which is probably why Michael Ohnmacht, head of the EU Delegation to Syria, recently published a sunny video of himself in the capital, Damascus.

But Ohnmacht didn't get the reactions he might have liked. Wherever........
