THE world should not be deceived by a global migration count lower than the highest annual statistics on record — 9,200 for 2024. Some 7,904 people disappeared or perished on migration routes worldwide in 2025 says the UN’s International Organisation for Migration. With these numbers, the missing or dead tally since 2014 surpasses 80,000 as per the agency’s Missing Migrants Project.
