Swalwell ‘Best Friend’ Ruben Gallego Is Now on the Hot Seat

Eric Swalwell resigned from Congress on Tuesday amid several allegations of sexual misconduct against him. Now, one of Swalwell’s formerly closest friends and colleagues is trying to distance himself from his ex-colleague.

On Tuesday, Democratic senator Ruben Gallego of Arizona told reporters in an extensive back-and-forth that he knew nothing of Swalwell’s alleged behavior and that he had been thoroughly deceived.

“Eric Swalwell lied to all of us. He lied to the most powerful people in this country, and they trusted him. They trusted him with the most sensitive spots in our government, whether it was on the Judiciary Committee, Intel Committee, impeaching Donald Trump,” Gallego said. “And that clouded my judgment. My friendship with him — our families’ friendship together with him — clouded my judgment. And I was wrong. I deeply, deeply regret that.”

Gallego said he called the press conference in order to address circulating rumors that suggested the Arizona senator must have been aware of Swalwell’s purported actions due to their close relationship. He suggested that political opponents to his 2024 Senate bid are behind the push to draw a link between him and Swalwell and that they’re using this “horrible situation” as an excuse to “politically attack me, lie about me,........
